The womxn’s power project explores the lives of all womxn and their shared stories of adversity and paths toward resilience. As womxn, we often minimize or diminish the difficult moments in our lives which can result in remaining in dangerous relationships or unhealthy and stressful jobs; the light within us dims and for some it becomes entirely extinguished. This project highlights the narratives of womxn who may for the first time be claiming their own lives, their needs, wants and desires; oftentimes with resistance from others and sometimes in order to better care for others. This project also explores the modalities womxn employ in their path toward resilience; for many it is their faith or spirituality, time spent in the natural world, their children or their jobs, myriad forms of self care, meditation, yoga or within their marriages and partnerships. Images emphasize the hands of womxn because we are the givers to the world, emotionally, physically and vibrationally; as writers, preachers, artists, teachers, engineers, entrepreneurs, musicians, explorers, mothers, grandmothers, daughters, partners and healers; is with our hands that we heal others, ourselves and gain strength in the process. Most important to this project is the representation of all womxn; sharing experiences from all races, classes, ethnicities, ages, physical abilities, sexual orientations and gender identities. The project also asks womxn to share through spoken word as well as portraiture what they have learned about themselves and to extend loving advice for other womxn on paths similar to their own. Portraiture and story telling require a willingness to be vulnerable and for many womxn that can be a challenge, but womxn’s stories are important, now more than ever, and this project offers a place where womxn can support each other and feel validated in spite of that vulnerability. Start over, my darling. Be Brave
enough to find the life you want
and courageous enough to chase it.
Then start over and love yourself
the way you were always meant to.
